Data analytics for warehouse logistics

Summary
The “Data Analytics for Warehouse Logistics” project was initiated to increase efficiency and transparency in warehouse operations. The manual preparation of invoices, which took several days, and the lack of clarity about picking performance at a detailed level led to considerable delays and uncertainties. There was also a need to check compliance with contractually agreed standards and KPIs in order to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
Our services
The following solutions were implemented as part of the project:
- Real-time monitoring of picking performance per employee and customer: This enables detailed and flexible analysis of performance, which helps management to make operational decisions.
- Automated generation of statements: The processing time for generating statements has been reduced from several days to a few minutes, which significantly improves efficiency.
- Automatic generation of KPIs for customers to check compliance with standards: KPIs are available to customers and management on an ad hoc basis, increasing transparency and confidence in contract compliance.
Technical implementation
The technical implementation comprised the following core areas:
- Data engineering work:
- Successful integration of external REST APIs and SOAP APIs into the internal data structures and analysis databases.
- Development of a data warehouse for data aggregation from multiple sources.
- Design and setup of ETL pipelines in SSIS and Airflow to ensure full data synchronization from external APIs to the local system.
- Data Analytics:
- Creation of business intelligence reports in PowerBI that enable data-driven decisions to be made and internal warehouse processes to be actively managed.
- Development of UX dashboard designs for active data-driven control of internal warehouse production processes.
- Technology stack: Use of modern technologies such as SSIS, MS SQL, Python, dbt, SQL, Power BI, Power BI Report Builder, Docker and Airflow to ensure a robust, flexible and scalable solution.
